Protect Your Vacation: Travel Insurance

Life is unpredictable and vacations are worth protecting. You’ve planned. You’ve looked forward to your vacation for months. But, unfortunately, sometimes things don’t go according to plan. What if you or a loved one gets sick before you leave for your trip? What if you need medical treatment while traveling? What if a rain storm closes the highway or your car breaks down on the way?

Salt & Sand Realty has partnered with RentalGuardian.com and InsureStays to help safeguard your entire booking deposit and other pre-paid non-refundable payments related to planned travel. We strongly encourage you to purchase optional travel insurance.

Travel Insurance covers risks incidental to planned travel such as sickness, accidental injury, or death of you or a family member (or of a traveling companion), weather delays, natural disasters, unexpected changes in your employment, and many more specified reasons.


Unique travel insurance coverage reasons include:

• You or your traveling companion being involved in an auto accident in route to your destination;

• You or a Traveling Companion being required to work during the Trip;

• The primary or secondary school where You and/or a Traveling Companion(s) or Your or a Traveling Companion’s Dependent Children attend must extend operating session beyond the pre-defined school year, and interferes with Your scheduled Trip dates;

• Death of Your cat or dog that occurs within seven (7) days prior to Your Trip Scheduled Departure Date as certified by a Veterinarian at the time of Loss preventing Your participation in the Trip;

• A closed roadway causing cessation of travel for You and/or a Traveling Companion for at least six (6) consecutive hours to or from Your Trip destination (substantiated by the Department of Transportation, state police, etc.);

Reasons to consider travel protection include:

Without travel protection, travelers run the risk of possibly losing part or all of their vacation investment if unforeseen circumstances like the following happen:

• Illness, injury or death to you, your traveling companions, or a family member not in the traveling party;

• Natural disasters like hurricanes or blizzards that cause a mandatory evacuation or cause your rental unit to be inaccessible or uninhabitable;

• Inclement weather causing delay or cancellation of travel;

• Unexpected work related activities like a job transfer, merger or acquisition;

• Road closures;

• You or Your Traveling Companion are hijacked, quarantined, required to serve on a jury, subpoenaed, required to appear as a witness in a legal action;

• Plus many, many additional covered reasons. 30+ trip cancellation reasons in all.

  • Should I get travel insurance?

    We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. Guests opting not to purchase travel insurance should be aware that per the terms and conditions in your rental agreement, refund-in-full of your reservation deposit(s) will not be available; therefore, your entire booking payment could be at risk.

  • When should I purchase travel insurance?

    We recommend you purchase the insurance at the time of booking to ensure the best coverage. In addition to protecting your vacation investment, Rental Guardian has other benefits like emergency travel assistance that you can take advantage of.

  • What does travel insurance cost?

    The coverage costs 7% of your total reservation invoice. The premium charged for travel insurance is generally non-refundable after 15 days of coverage purchase.

  • How do I purchase travel insurance?

    At the time of booking:
    When you check out on our website you have the option to protect your travel investment with travel insurance. You'll see the price reflected on this page. If you choose to reserve a property over the phone please let us know you would like to purchase travel insurance and we'll walk you through the process.

    After you have booked:
    If you did not elect to purchase travel insurance when you booked a property through us, you still may have the option to add coverage. Please contact us for more information and to see if your reservation is eligible.

  • What do I do if I need to make a claim?

    As a covered traveler, should you have a medical issue or experience trip delay or interruption due to unforeseen developments, you may initiate your claim by calling Rental Guardian directly.
