Off-Leash Beach Season on Oak Island
From now through March 15th, pups can play off-leash on the beach from 6am to 8pm in areas marked by beach signs (on leash the rest of the year). Many of our homes also feature fenced yards and easy beach access — so pack the treats and settle in to your next coastal getaway!
Note: Dogs must be leashed when entering or exiting the beach.
Beach Bonfire Season
Gather your crew and enjoy a cozy beach bonfire under the stars! Permits are required from the Town of Oak Island and can be easily requested online or in person.

Oak Island Tree Lighting Ceremony
Celebrate the holiday season at the Annual Tree Lighting with the Town of Oak Island! Head to Middleton Park for train rides, live music by The Ford Project, craft stations, and holiday market shopping. Santa will make a special appearance before the countdown to the lighting at 6:00 pm.

Christmas By The Sea Parade
Kick off the season with this beloved Oak Island tradition! Decorated floats and golf carts showcasing local businesses travel East Oak Island Drive from Town Hall to McGlamery Street. Don’t miss Santa and Mrs. Claus on the final float!

Winterfestival of Trees · Southport
Step into a twinkling wonderland as local businesses and organizations decorate themed Christmas trees.

Light Up the Night Christmas Parade · Southport
The Southport Fire Department presents this interactive holiday parade! Children can board the fire engines at 5:30 pm before the parade rolls along Moore and Howe Streets. After the route, don't miss visiting with Santa.

For its 31st year, Southport’s Winterfest Flotilla lights up the Cape Fear River with a parade of decorated boats and music along the waterfront!

4th Annual Oak Island Lantern Parade
Ring in the new year with a gentle glow along the shoreline! This community-led “unofficial” parade invites everyone to create and carry lanterns as the sun sets over the Atlantic — a beautiful symbol of light, hope, and coastal connection.
